I met you the year I drove Andrew home for Christmas from Columbia. We kept in touch for only a short while after Andrew's passing, but I wanted to check to see how you were. I truly miss Andy even now. Even though Andy and I were only close for a little over a year, he was one of the best friends I will ever have. He volunteered to wear his reinactment uniform in the CAPA Ghost Tours for our Interact Club into the late evening hours, when he was only in the 8th grade. At BHS I was his foreign language teacher. He was very conscientious with his studies, and polite, despite some ridicule he experienced because of his dress and makeup. As a Senior he submitted a beautiful collage of a violin on a music score which I used for our Annual Report. I still treasure this. While at Furman he and Sara (a friend of the family) came to our home for dinner and had such a nice evening. I can't believe that he is gone. He had so much to offer to all of us. . . his teachers were devastated with this terrible loss... Mme G |

(11-08-2005)I don't write much on these sights but they have helped me deal with my grief and I read all the postings of people in the same situation, losing an "only" child. I don't believe there is anything more devastating in one's life. My whole world stopped that day. I exist and try to go on but that is "half" of me only. She was my "life" and now life exists, thats all. Nothing seems to matter anymore. I have a wonderful husband so try and be here for him the best that I can. This tribute to Andy is beautiful. I read and come to this sight often. He must have gone through a lot, waiting for his child to come and having such a terrible thing happen. One thing, we'll all be together someday and I will hang on to Terri and never let her go. I miss her SO much. Love all of you. |

I was looking through the Island Packet today...actually, the November 5th, 2005 edition, and noticed a picture that really struck my eye...it was almost located in the center of the page...a beautiful boy with a stunning smile. I also recognized some dates under his name. Generally noted, these dates indicate life to death. I was intrigued to learn more about this boy, Andy, as I read the note from his family members. I read and viewed the websites. I learned about his illness, life story, his accomplishments...which were many for such a young person, and the love he had for life, people, poetry, music, history and most importantly the love that was shared between he and his mother.
